COFIDES has supported Grupo Nexus Energía in consolidating its presence in Portugal, a leading company in electricity and gas commercialization, sustainability and energy transition services, and representation of renewable energy producers. To achieve this, COFIDES provided a loan through the Fondo para Inversiones en el Exterior (FIEX) to complete the acquisition of 100% of the capital of Luzboa, the electricity supplier through which Nexus Energía operates in Portugal.
Nexus Energía had already received COFIDES’ support in 2024 to acquire an additional 32% of Luzboa’s capital, adding to the 51% stake the group already held, through a co-investment loan of €2.2 million. With the current transaction acquiring the remaining 17% from its two partners, Nexus Energía completes the full integration of its Portuguese subsidiary.
This new investment consolidates the energy group’s presence in the Portuguese market, strengthening its international growth strategy in a country that has become one of its key expansion priorities.
Miguel Ángel Ladero, Corporate Director of COFIDES’ Investment Department, emphasized “the importance of supporting companies committed to renewable energy, like Nexus Energía, in their internationalization process to jointly advance a sustainable energy transition and reinforce sustainability criteria in their strategy.”
For his part, Miguel Fandiño, CEO of Grupo Nexus Energía, stated, “We are very pleased to have completed this financial transaction, which reinforces our commitment to our subsidiary in Portugal. The positive progress we have experienced since our entry fills us with optimism for the future, and we remain committed to developing innovative and sustainable energy solutions for Portugal.”
