The Innvierte SICC of CDTI Innovación has invested, together with BeAble Innvierte Kets Fund, in Molecular Gate, a company developing authentication technology to protect product labeling and packaging against counterfeiting.
MOLECULAR GATE, S.L. (Molecular Gate) is a Catalan company founded in 2022 by the Institute of Materials Science of Barcelona (ICMAB-CSIC). It provides advanced security solutions that strengthen product labeling and packaging, significantly increasing protection against counterfeiting.
To this end, the company has developed Polargram™, an authentication technology based on printing nano-structured patterns using patented semiconductor molecular inks capable of generating unique optical effects that cannot be replicated through conventional printing or copying methods. Each label can be serialized or encoded with a unique optical signature, combining scalable physical (visible) security and digital (hidden) traceability in a single process.
Thanks to Molecular Gate’s anti-counterfeiting technology, the authenticity of products such as food, toys, and pharmaceuticals can be guaranteed through their packaging.
Through its Innvierte programme, CDTI Innovación has completed an investment in the company together with BeAble Innvierte Kets Fund, FCR, for a total amount of €450,000.
BeAble Innvierte Kets Fund
BeAble Innvierte Kets Fund, FCR is a leading Deep Tech fund in science equity, specialized in Deep Science and managed by BeAble Capital SGEIC. The firm invests in areas such as nanotechnology, photonics, and biotechnology. The fund, with a total size of €35 million and backed by major institutions, has supported Molecular Gate since its creation.
Innvierte
Innvierte is an initiative aimed at promoting business innovation by supporting venture capital investment in technology-based and innovative companies. The programme operates through the closed-end investment company Innvierte Economía Sostenible SICC S.M.E., S.A., which is self-managed and supervised by the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores, and of which CDTI Innovación is the sole shareholder.
To date, CDTI Innovación, through Innvierte, has committed €3,183.8 million to 57 investment vehicles and, through its co-investment line, has directly committed €864.3 million to 197 companies.
Innvierte forms part of the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2021–2027, approved by the Council of Ministers in September 2020. This Strategy sets out the objectives, reforms, and measures to be adopted across the entire R&D&I system in order to boost its growth and impact, and it is one of the pillars underpinning the Government’s R&D&I policy for the coming years.
