Spain's healthcare sector is experiencing an unprecedented period of maturity. Specialized investors have helped professionalize projects, international capital is increasingly turning its attention to the local ecosystem, and startups are advancing through clinical development, bringing innovative solutions closer to market.
Catalonia's life sciences ecosystem reached a new investment record in 2025, attracting more than €517 million, with venture capital playing a leading role by investing €327 million in emerging companies. All indications suggest that 2026 could surpass that figure. These are among the findings highlighted by industry experts in the Diari ARA article,"Venture Capital Drives Catalan Life Sciences."
Laurent Arens van de Perre, Investment Director at BStartup Banco Sabadell, commented: "Barcelona's business ecosystem is far from reaching its ceiling. We will see larger funding rounds becoming increasingly common, and in some areas we are already doing things better than the rest of Europe."
Among the ecosystem's standout success stories is INBRAIN Neuroelectronics, a BStartup Health portfolio company and a leading player in neurotechnology. Earlier this year, the company announced the launch of a €100 million financing round, a milestone that reflects the ecosystem's ability to attract significant capital to high-impact innovation projects.
With nine editions completed, BStartup Health was created from that same conviction. For the ninth consecutive year, the programme is opening its investment call for pre-seed and seed-stage healthcare startups, targeting projects in Medical Devices, Diagnostics, Therapeutics & Drugs, and eHealth.
