Bioherent, a biotechnology startup specializing in the development of in vitro diagnostic devices based on photonic biosensors and nanotechnology, has announced the incorporation of Axon Partners Group as a new investment partner, co-investing alongside Bullnet Capital and CDTI-Innvierte, the company's initial investors.
The joint investment from Axon, Bullnet, and CDTI will allow Bioherent to advance the clinical validation of its platform for diagnosing antibiotic allergies using non-invasive, high-sensitivity methods, as well as scale its manufacturing processes and take the first steps toward commercialization in Europe.
“The addition of Axon not only provides us with strategic financial backing, but also with a valuable network of knowledge and expertise that is key to Bioherent's growth,” says Yara Aceta, CEO of Bioherent. “Together, we are taking a solid step toward a new paradigm in the diagnosis of drug hypersensitivity—an unmet clinical need.”
Through this partnership, Bioherent reinforces its commitment to developing accurate, accessible, and rapid diagnostic tools that help reduce the overdiagnosis of beta-lactam allergies, one of the contributing factors to the growing issue of antimicrobial resistance.
“We see in Bioherent a unique technological proposition, with a solid scientific foundation and clear clinical application,” says Macarena González, Head of Investments in Andalusia at Axon Partners Group. “We believe strongly in the platform's potential to transform disease diagnostics. With Bioherent, we’re contributing to the decentralization of diagnostic access and the promotion of more personalized, efficient, and sustainable healthcare systems.”
Javier Ulecia and Miguel del Cañizo, founding partners of Bullnet Capital, add: “We are very pleased to have our colleagues at Axon join us in this new stage of Bioherent. We hope this is the first of many future co-investments with them in other Andalusian companies.”
Bioherent is an early-stage company based in Málaga focused on developing innovative solutions for clinical diagnostics. Its technology combines high-precision optical biosensors with nanotechnology-functionalized surfaces, enabling the detection of immune reactions with unprecedented sensitivity and automation, using minimal sample volumes.
