Bankinter is innovating in its range of services. Between 2023 and 2026, the bank will raise close to €100 million in private investment for national and international audiovisual productions filmed in Spain.
The bank is now reaping significant results from a dedicated initiative launched in 2023 to provide financial support to the Spanish film industry. This service consists of offering a financial package to Spanish production companies seeking economic backing for their films and series. To date, it has enabled productions with a total combined budget of €235 million.
The specialised Bankinter unit delivering this service is responsible for analysing each audiovisual production and its financial plan, calculating the potential tax incentives available, identifying private investors interested in allocating capital in exchange for returns, and creating a tailor-made financial structure for each film or series. In addition, the bank provides specific complementary financing and, in some cases, also invests directly in the project.
The financial structuring of these transactions allows for the financing of up to 100% of the project, enabling both production companies and private investors to benefit from tax incentives that are increasingly widespread worldwide. In Spain, several film hubs are experiencing strong growth thanks to these incentives, including the Basque Country, the Canary Islands and Navarre.
Bankinter has also participated in and promoted various forums with the audiovisual industry to demonstrate its support for the sector and its collaboration with public authorities that also back it. By way of example, an event was held in Bilbao (Basque Country) focused on investment opportunities in the film industry and in R&D&I projects, attended by Javier Hernández Bermejo, Director of the bank’s Northern Territorial Organisation, together with the Bankinter team responsible for audiovisual production structuring, as well as other participants from production companies and the public sector.
