The Department of Business and Labour of the Catalan Government, through Avançsa, has formalized a financing agreement with Pangea Propulsion, a Catalan company specialized in the development of advanced space propulsion systems. The operation is part of the Innova Creixement financing line and provides for support of up to 2 million euros, of which 1 million euros will be disbursed in this first phase.
Based in Barcelona and also operating in France, Pangea Propulsion has positioned itself as one of the strategic players for the European Space Agency (ESA) and the future of New Space through its disruptive technological offering and its innovation capacity. The company develops proprietary high-efficiency, sustainable and reusable space propulsion technologies for launchers and satellites, with a value proposition based on superior performance, radical cost reduction, and the use of more sustainable propellants.
The Director General of Avançsa, Clàudia Canals, explained that the agreement with Pangea Propulsion “responds to the desire to promote driving projects capable of placing Catalonia at the forefront of emerging technological sectors at a European level.” Avançsa’s commitment to Pangea Propulsion “not only strengthens European technological sovereignty in a critical field, but also generates a significant industrial impact in the territory, both in terms of knowledge, skilled employment and technological infrastructure, as well as the creation of an industrial hub specialized in the space sector in Catalonia.”
The CEO of Pangea Propulsion, Adrià Argemí, stated that “we are in a phase of strong growth, in which institutional support is key to consolidating this momentum. In this context, over the past year we have doubled our team, and this financing will allow us to expand our testing and manufacturing capabilities to accelerate the development of our products and further improve their efficiency.”
Avançsa’s institutional support will help the company continue its industrial and technological growth plan until the end of 2027, with the aim of strengthening its industrial and technological capabilities in two strategic locations: Barcelona and Alguaire.
In recent years, the European space sector has undergone an accelerated transformation driven by the New Space model, based on highly innovative private companies developing more agile, modular, and scalable solutions. This new paradigm is generating new opportunities in areas such as telecommunications, Earth observation, defense, meteorology, and real-time data management. In this regard, the Government of Catalonia promotes the Catalonia Space Strategy 2030 with the aim of mobilizing the entire sector: from large corporations to startups, SMEs, and research and innovation agents, fostering a diverse, robust ecosystem oriented toward productivity, with companies as the engine of growth and value.
In this context, Pangea Propulsion contributes to strengthening technological sovereignty in a sector considered critical for the competitiveness and security of the European continent. The initiative not only drives the development of a strategic infrastructure in the aerospace field but also positions Catalonia as a relevant player within Europe’s ecosystem
