Viriato Capital has acquired Effisus, a company based in Portugal with offices in the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

Effisus was founded in Vila Nova de Famalicão in 2005 by Pedro Carvalho and Paulo Carvalho to develop and market integrated construction solutions aimed at promoting energy efficiency and ensuring the watertightness of building facades and roofs, as well as fire protection. Effisus' waterproofing solutions can be applied in a wide range of situations, from cladding facades of high-rise towers and skyscrapers to solving waterproofing issues in elements such as gutters, skylights, window frames, joints, and perforations.

Effisus ended 2023 with a turnover of more than 10 million euros. Exports account for the majority of the company's turnover, with its main international markets being the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Spain. Effisus currently has about 40 employees, distributed between Portugal, the United Kingdom, and Dubai.

Its portfolio of exclusive products for building facades and roofs includes dozens of projects, such as the Apple headquarters in California, the iconic Museum of the Future and Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, the Guggenheim Museum in Abu Dhabi, the new Google headquarters in Dublin, Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, Hudson Yards in New York, Battersea Power Station in London, and the Riyadh Metro in Saudi Arabia.

Viriato Capital, led by Pablo Alvarez Guerra and Miguel Costa Freire, is a Search Fund that has the support of various international investors such as Arada Capital Partners SCR, a private equity fund specializing in investments in SMEs internationally. Viriato Capital's investment in Effisus aims to boost the company's growth, strengthen its position in current markets, and promote entry into new markets. Furthermore, this investment supports the development of solutions at Effisus that contribute to greater energy efficiency and sustainability in building construction, thus aligning with environmental preservation. It is noteworthy that the name 'Effisus' derives from 'Efficiency' and 'Sustainability' in English, reflecting the core of its business mission.

Pablo Alvarez Guerra and Miguel Costa Freire have joined the company and are leading the current management team of Effisus, bringing their experience and know-how in management, strategic consulting, and finance, gained among others at multinationals like McKinsey & Co., J.P. Morgan, Bain & Co., and Nestlé. The founders of Effisus, Paulo Carvalho and Pedro Carvalho, will remain on the Effisus team.

Viriato Capital was advised by CCSL Advogados, with a multidisciplinary team led by Mafalda Almeida Carvalho, partner in Corporate and M&A. The transaction, which involved different jurisdictions, was coordinated by CCSL and included the participation of law firms Ontier España (Spain), Farrer & Co, L&S Law Firm, and Cooley UK (United Kingdom), and Al Tamini & Co (Dubai). The founders of Effisus were advised by the law firm Teixeira & Guimarães - Sociedade de Advogados, led by partner João de Sousa Guimarães, the consultancy Hub Advisory (Spain), and the law firm Taylor Wessing (United Kingdom).
