A new meeting of the SME Venture Capital Fund Gijón Invierte II has taken place. The fund has a total allocation of €5 million, with the Gijón/Xixón City Council as its sole partner. During the meeting, two investment operations were assessed, involving a total contribution of €250,000.

The approved projects fall within the fund’s target verticals, specifically activities related to the biotech and fintech sectors.

Since its launch, a total of 16 investments have been approved, including the most recent ones, amounting to €2,850,000, which represents 57% of the fund’s total capital.

Ángela Pumariega, Deputy Mayor of the Gijón/Xixón City Council and Councillor for Economy, Employment, Tourism and Innovation, stated at the conclusion of the meeting: “The Gijón/Xixón City Council continues to pursue an economic policy aimed at strengthening the local productive fabric, creating quality employment and attracting investment. In this context, the approval of two new operations by the investment committee of the SME Venture Capital Fund Gijón Invierte II demonstrates the effectiveness of this instrument as a lever for public-private collaboration.

These investments make it possible to support companies with growth potential, fostering the creation of skilled employment, promoting innovative and sustainable projects, and anchoring economic activity in the city. They also contribute to improving Gijón’s strategic positioning as an attractive environment for entrepreneurship and investment, aligned with a diversified, competitive, and long-term-oriented development model. The fund is thus consolidated as a key tool for channeling resources toward initiatives that combine economic viability, social impact, and returns for the wider community.
