Santander Corporate & Investment Banking (Santander CIB) has participated, alongside NORD/LB, in the financing of the Foerderstedt battery energy storage system (BESS) project, developed by ECO STOR in Germany.
With a capacity of 300 MW and 718 MWh, Foerderstedt is the largest battery energy storage project ever financed in Germany. The facility will play a key role in supporting the integration of renewable energy, enhancing grid stability, and strengthening security of electricity supply. The project is expected to reach full commercial operation in 2027.
The asset benefits from a long-term flexibility tolling agreement with a five-year tenor, providing a robust and stable commercial framework for the project.
The development of large-scale energy storage infrastructure is essential to accelerating the energy transition and supporting the growing share of renewable energy across European power markets.
As demand for large-scale storage solutions continues to increase across Europe, Santander CIB remains committed to supporting its clients through the provision of capital, sector expertise, and financing solutions that enable the development of the next generation of energy infrastructure.
