Pelliga, the family office of the Pellicer family, founders of the Valencian Institute of Infertility (IVI), has taken a stake in Lumiris, a Barcelona-based startup spun off from the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC).

Lumiris works to support intended parents in their in vitro fertilization journey by identifying the most competent embryo to increase the likelihood of a successful pregnancy. The company introduces an innovative hyperspectral technology to assist professionals in embryo evaluation, reducing subjectivity. This non-invasive technology provides detailed color-coded images to analyze embryo metabolism, surpassing the standard black-and-white images used to assess embryo morphology.

The deal was formalized through the conversion into shares of financing granted in 2024. With this transaction, Pelliga joins Lumiris’s shareholder base with a minority stake in a company that has already attracted the attention of prominent investors.

Among them is Scranton Enterprises, an investment vehicle linked to members of the family that owns pharmaceutical company Grifols. Scranton holds just under 20% of Lumiris and invested €1.5 million when the company was still an embryonic project within IBEC.

Commenting on Pelliga’s entry, Samuel Ojosnegros, CSO of Lumiris, stated that their support “represents a seal of quality for the company’s business model.” Although Lumiris is not yet generating revenue, it expects to start doing so in the first quarter of 2026. Its strategy focuses on marketing research-use-only (RUO) devices for clinical practice, which shortens the regulatory pathways compared to selling clinical instruments directly.

To date, the startup has raised over €3 million from investors such as Scranton, Pelliga, and others, reaching an approximate valuation of €17 million. The most recent funding round, closed in 2025, brought in €820,000 from a private investor. In addition, Lumiris has received support from small investors via the crowdfunding platform Capital Cell.
