King & Wood Mallesons ("KWM") has announced the appointment of Gonzalo Fernández Contreras as Counsel to its Corporate/M&A team. A lawyer with more than 13 years of experience, Gonzalo specializes in advising national and international companies on all types of corporate matters, including investments and divestments, restructuring processes, joint ventures and secondary deals.
His career in the energy and private equity sectors stands out, where, in recent years, he has advised, among others, EDP Energías de Portugal, Galp, Greenvolt, Alantra, Portobello Capital, Headway Capital, Glendower Capital, GED Capital, Moira Industrial Partners, Capza, Artá Capital and Axis Participaciones Empresariales.
Roberto Pomares, managing partner of KWM in Spain and head of the Corporate and M&A practice area, points out that "in recent years Gonzalo has become a key figure, being a great support for partners in the generation of business, coordination of matters and team management. Gonzalo has been one of the lead lawyers in some of KWM's most relevant transactions in recent years. These include advising Alantra Solar on the launch of its N-Sun platform; advising EDP Energías de Portugal on the acquisition of Viesgo from Macquarie; and advising the French asset manager CAPZA on several of its transactions in Spain, including the acquisition of a majority stake in Grupo La Finca and the investment and subsequent divestment of the digital certificate company Ivnosys – currently part of the Signaturit group.
This promotion is yet another example of the Firm's commitment to talent. With this appointment, and following a period of sustained growth, KWM currently has 13 partners, 7 counsels and a staff of nearly 90 professionals in Spain.
