BioPatch wins the seventh edition of Innomakers4Health, held this past weekend in Madrid, organized by Wayra, Telefónica’s corporate venture capital, Pfizer, and the Pfizer Foundation. This program brings together innovation, technology, and healthcare to address the challenges of the health sector, aiming to design innovative solutions and create prototypes that improve people’s quality of life.
In the ‘Early Innovators’ category, BioPatch was the winner for developing a patch to detect breast cancer through non-invasive, low-cost measurement of the electrical conductivity of cancerous cells. The ‘Startups’ category remained unawarded.
This edition saw the participation of more than 100 entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds, divided into 21 teams. The resulting projects offered disruptive proposals to accelerate the adoption of biomarkers through technological solutions that make them more accessible, understandable, and useful for clinical decision-making.
Irene Gómez Luque, CEO of Wayra, stated: “At Wayra, we are delighted to see the great local talent and the interest generated by this call to innovate in such a key sector for our society as healthcare. Thanks to Pfizer and the Pfizer Foundation for allowing us to once again be part of Innomakers4Health, where we bring all our expertise in the entrepreneurial ecosystem to connect them with the Spanish healthcare system.”
Sergio Rodríguez, President of the Pfizer Foundation, added: “Collaborative innovation is key to transforming the future of healthcare. Innomakers4Health embodies that spirit, a space where creativity, technology, and social commitment come together to address the major healthcare challenges of our time.” He also emphasized that the Pfizer Foundation launches programs like this “to promote healthcare entrepreneurship, supporting entrepreneurs by providing access to clinical knowledge and collaboration networks in the sector that enhance their projects.”
BioPatch has received a cash prize of €3,000. Additionally, it will have the opportunity to accelerate its project at the InnomakersLAB, Pfizer’s hub in collaboration with Wayra, which will also provide access to a six-month mentorship program and a workspace at their Madrid offices. This experience allows entrepreneurs to continue developing their proposals with the guidance of experts in open innovation.
