Acron Beka, the M&A advisory division of the Beka Group, has acted as financial advisor to Iberdrola in its strategic alliance with Echelon Data Centres to create a joint venture aimed at developing and operating data centers in Spain. This is the largest binding agreement of its kind in Europe between an energy company and a technology infrastructure developer.

The joint venture, 20% owned by Iberdrola through its subsidiary CPD4Green and 80% by Echelon, will combine the expertise and capabilities of both companies to drive growth in a high-potential sector. Iberdrola will contribute land with grid connection and ensure a secure, clean, and competitive 24/7 energy supply, while Echelon will be responsible for permitting, design, commercialization, and daily management of the joint venture.

Echelon Data Centres, owned by Starwood Capital Group, is a leading operator of large-scale data center infrastructure in Europe, developing and managing assets to meet the growing global demand for connected data and computing resources. Headquartered in Ireland, the company operates data centers and energy storage and generation facilities across Ireland, the UK, Europe, and North America.

The joint venture’s first project will be Madrid Sur, a 160,000 m² complex with the capacity to process 144 MW of data and a secured electrical connection of 230 MW. The facility will create around 1,500 jobs and will meet its energy demand — equivalent to 1 TWh — through an on-site photovoltaic solar plant, complemented by additional renewable energy supplied by Iberdrola.

Through this agreement, Iberdrola strengthens its position as a global leader in electricity supply for data centers, delivering more than 11 TWh to technology companies and infrastructure operators. In addition, CPD4Green, which focuses on facilitating the development of data processing infrastructure, already has a portfolio of sites for 700 MW in Spain and potential for developing an additional 5,000 MW.

“We at Acron Beka are proud to have supported Iberdrola in a landmark transaction for the development of critical infrastructure for the digital economy in Spain. This agreement not only strengthens the transition to a cleaner energy model but also positions our country at the forefront of Europe’s data center sector,” said Diego Aguinaga, Co-CEO of Acron Beka.

Spain has established itself as the main gateway for global data into Europe, concentrating more than 70% of the traffic into the continent thanks to its fiber-optic network, submarine cable connections, availability of renewable energy, and a robust power grid. This transaction confirms Acron Beka’s role as a trusted partner in advising high-value strategic deals in sectors critical to the future of the economy.
