Sociedad Regional de Promoción (SRP), the public investment company of the Principality of Asturias, has successfully completed its financial support for AGR Catalysts Recovery, a company established in 2018 to develop a pioneering activity in Spain at its facility in Carreño: the recovery of valuable metals contained in spent catalysts generated by industrial processes.
The divestment marks the successful conclusion of a process that began in 2019, when SRP provided the company with €700,000 in financing, a key contribution that enabled AGR Catalysts Recovery to complete a €2.5 million investment and launch a highly technological industrial project in Asturias.
The project was created to address an industrial need for which no dedicated solution previously existed in Spain, enabling the treatment and recovery of spent catalysts within the country. Since then, the company has experienced sustained growth and now employs 13 people, achieving €2.8 million in revenue in 2025.
AGR Catalysts Recovery operates in line with the principles of the circular economy, recovering valuable metals that are reintroduced into the industrial value chain. This process helps reduce the consumption of raw materials—including several classified as strategic by the European Union—prevents waste from being sent to landfill and lowers the environmental impact associated with mineral extraction.
The company also has a strong international focus, both in terms of the origin of the spent catalysts it processes and the markets supplied with the recovered metals. This international reach is supported by the expertise of its industrial shareholders: the Asturian company Aprochim-Getesarp-Rymoil (A.G.R.), which specialises in industrial waste treatment, and the UK-based London Chemicals & Resources (LCR), a specialist in recycling, metal recovery and the international management of spent catalysts.
David González, Chairman of SRP, said: "AGR Catalysts Recovery's strong performance demonstrates the importance of having public financing instruments that support innovative industrial projects. Our investment helped make possible a pioneering initiative in Spain with a strong technological and environmental focus."
"The successful completion of this transaction reflects SRP's role as a financial partner for business growth. Our objective is to support projects capable of transforming the Asturian economy and, once they have reached maturity, reinvest those resources in new initiatives that generate wealth and employment in Asturias," González added.
