The Spanish Government today formalized its participation in the Spanish microelectronics company Ideaded, with a public investment of 9.5 million euros signed today in Viladecans by Javier Ponce, general director of the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT).

Thanks to this joint investment, which includes additional investment from other partners besides SETT, the company will acquire new machinery and complete its pilot plant in Viladecans, aiming for a capacity of 50 wafers per month. The first in-house manufactured wafer is expected to be produced in the second half of 2026, with expanded production following in 2027.

Founded in Girona in 2015 and headquartered in Viladecans (Barcelona), Ideaded develops sustainable microchips based on alternative materials to silicon and flexible substrates, with applications in distribution, logistics, pharmaceuticals and computing, and with enormous strategic potential in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing or defense.

Its focus on new materials and efficient processes positions it as a pioneering company in beyond silicon technologies , those that explore materials capable of overcoming the physical limitations of silicon, a key advance in the evolution of the microelectronics industry.

Since May 2025, the company has also had a machine capable of manufacturing 300 million RFID (radio-frequency identification) antennas per year, a technology used for real-time product and inventory tracking. These new antennas will be produced using materials never before seen in the industry and through processes that are 300% more efficient and sustainable.

In a global context with more than 500 silicon-based semiconductor factories and fewer than 20 operating with alternative materials, Ideaded places Spain among the pioneering countries in the development of sustainable microchips, a key technological field for the future of the global industry.

The Catalan company stands out for its commitment to research and investment in R&D, and for its role in creating a national microelectronics ecosystem, collaborating with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and with the Chip Chairs program, promoted by the Government of Spain.

SETT's investment is part of the PERTE Chip , which aims to strengthen national industrial and technological leadership by supporting projects that combine innovation, sustainability, and market transfer. The implementation of the PERTE Chip fund, established by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and financed by the European Union – Next Generation funds – is among SETT's responsibilities. SETT also manages two other financial instruments to boost the technology business ecosystem: Next Tech, dedicated to disruptive technologies, and Spain Audiovisual Hub, which promotes the digitalization of the audiovisual sector.
