MATX and BerriUp have signed a collaboration agreement aimed at promoting new funding channels for innovation, entrepreneurship, culture and sustainability projects in the Basque Country through the use of tax incentives.

The partnership seeks to facilitate access to funding for initiatives capable of generating economic, social and environmental impact across the region, connecting them with companies and investors interested in supporting this type of project.

The agreement strengthens a long-standing relationship between the two organisations in the fields of innovation and entrepreneurship, while expanding its scope to new sectors and investment opportunities linked to regional development.

Under this framework, MATX and BerriUp will work together to identify and support projects that may benefit from alternative financing mechanisms, while fostering connections between project promoters, companies, investors and other ecosystem stakeholders.

Particular attention will be given to projects related to technological innovation, environmental sustainability, culture and entrepreneurship—areas facing growing financing needs to accelerate their development and scalability.

In addition, both organisations will explore collaboration opportunities within open innovation programmes promoted by corporations and institutions. In this context, instruments such as those provided for under Articles 64 bis, 65 bis and 66 of the Basque provincial tax regulations offer new possibilities for channeling resources towards innovative projects with a positive impact on the Basque Country.

The collaboration will also include the organisation of events, workshops and networking initiatives designed to encourage knowledge transfer and create opportunities among startups, leading companies, investors and project promoters.

Channeling Resources Towards Transformational Projects

The alliance is based on a shared vision: tax incentives can become an effective tool for mobilising private investment towards initiatives that strengthen the competitiveness, innovation capacity and sustainability of the Basque economy.

At a time when the green transition, technological transformation and cultural industries require new sources of funding, both organisations believe there are significant opportunities to connect private capital with projects that generate long-term value for the region.

Amaia Legorburu, Founding Partner of MATX, stated: “Financing can become a strategic tool for supporting projects that generate both economic and social value. This collaboration allows us to broaden the reach of our activities and bring new funding opportunities to initiatives that contribute to the sustainable development of the Basque Country.”

Jon Ander Merodio, CEO of BerriUp, added: “One of the main challenges faced by many startups and innovative projects is accessing financing during key stages of growth. This alliance opens up new opportunities to connect talent, innovation and investment while strengthening the Basque entrepreneurial ecosystem.”
