The family-owned company has replaced machinery from 2006 to increase its production of paper sacks and meet growing current demand.

The Institut Català de Finances (ICF) has financed the Catalan company Industrias Bolcar, which manufactures paper sacks for various sectors, with a €9.9 million loan to launch a new production line at its facilities in Vilobí del Penedès (Alt Penedès).

With this investment, the second-generation family company has replaced machinery from 2006 with newer, more modern, efficient and sustainable equipment, with the aim of increasing its production of paper sacks, the segment currently seeing the strongest growth in demand.

Thanks to digital gluing technology, Industrias Bolcar will gain efficiency, achieve significant cost savings and expand its product range to strengthen its competitiveness. The investment also incorporates sustainability criteria, as it is expected to reduce the use of plastic and glues in the manufacturing process.

Financing from the Generalitat's public development bank covers around 85% of a total investment of €11.5 million, including an advance on a grant that the company will repay by the end of the year.

"This is the role of public banking: to support projects that move Catalonia towards greater competitiveness and, at the same time, greater sustainability. Industrias Bolcar's investment is a strategic move that strengthens a family company rooted in the region and will also give a new boost to industry in the Alt Penedès," said ICF CEO Vanessa Servera.

Industrias Bolcar was founded in 1968 and is now run by the second generation. It has become one of the five leading paper sack manufacturers in Spain. The company produces up to 120 million sacks each year, has a turnover of around €20 million, and exports 40% of its production.
