EIT InnoEnergy is the innovation engine for sustainable energy across Europe.
We support and invest in innovation at every stage of the journey – from classroom to end-customer. With our network of partners, we build connections across Europe, bringing together inventors and industry, graduates and employers, researchers and entrepreneurs, businesses and markets.
We work in three essential areas of the innovation mix:
·Education to help create an informed and ambitious workforce that understands the demands of sustainability and the needs of industry.
·Innovation Projects to bring together ideas, inventors and industry to create commercially attractive technologies that deliver real results to customers.
·Business Creation Services to support entrepreneurs and start-ups who are expanding Europe’s energy ecosystem with their innovative offerings.
Bringing these disciplines together maximises the impact of each, accelerates the development of market-ready solutions, and creates a fertile environment in which we can sell the innovative results of our work.
EIT InnoEnergy was established in 2010 and is supported by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).
Accelerating sustainable energy innovations
Creating energy that’s sustainable in every sense.
For us, true sustainability also means an industry that’s commercially viable, endlessly innovative, and highly competitive.
We make this possible by helping the adoption of pioneering new technologies, without risk or complexity.
From mobility to construction - from renewable energy sources to smarter storage - our commercially-attractive technologies are the product of a trusted ecosystem for sustainable energy.
We’ve invested 275.5 million euros into more than 480 products, which have forecasted sales amounting to 5.3 billion euros. In addition, 1,100 alumni have graduated from our Master's and PhD School programmes, many of whom work for prestigious companies such as Tesla, Siemens, Total and Procter & Gamble.
We also bring together 500+ key players from across the energy value chain, from 18 different countries, who have indirect access to 150 million energy consumers.
The result is the proven, landmark innovation you need to reduce energy costs, increase system performance, decrease greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, create jobs, and increase competitiveness.
Energy is in everything we do
It’s not just our area of technical expertise, the industry we’re transforming, or the place where we put our proven ecosystem for innovation to work. Energy also defines the proactive, dynamic way we bring our bold ambition to life. As engaged, active partners, we work with innovators and industry, entrepreneurs and enablers, the research space, and commerce. As a result, we have become a valued source of expertise and insight into the challenges the energy industry is facing today - and where innovation will take us tomorrow.
A trusted partner for our sustainable future
Beyond working with organisations across the energy value chain, we’re proud to play a pivotal role in the decisions that affect the future of the energy industry across Europe and beyond.
We have been a driving force behind several European initiatives, including the European Battery Alliance (EBA), where we helped shape EU policy and cement a positive impact on the energy transition.
It’s a reflection of our reputation for delivering practical innovation and, above all else, supporting the industry as it undergoes transformations in the future. Read more in our corporate brochure.

Reduced time to market, turning your prototype into a commercial product within five years
Access to over 430 European project partners to support the development of new products
- While certainty settles, we continue supporting.
The business context for the next two quarters is still uncertain, so we have decided to postpone the planned Investment Round to (early in) the first quarter of year 2021.
Nevertheless the Green Deal seems to be at the core of the European recovery plans, which is strategically good news, as our EIT InnoEnergy trusted ecosystem will play a key contributive role.
So while certainty settles, we continue supporting the innovators that were preparing their proposals, so their business cases are more robust when getting to the selection and investment process in Q1 2021.
