Opticalia consolidates its position in Colombia with the financial support from COFIDES. By means of a financial co-investment instrument amounting to 750,000 euros taken from FONPYME, OPTICALIA will expand its Colombian project.

After signing the financing agreement, COFIDES chairman, Salvador Marín, has stated that "the internationalisation of companies encourages competitiveness in the private sector of our country and helps other markets know and value the know-how of the Spanish companies". In addition to this, Salvador Marín has highlighted that in the last few years the company has managed to become a market leader in Colombia.

PROJECT IN COLOMBIA

OPTICALIA Colombia was established in 2015 with the purpose of reproducing its business model in Colombia, a country in which it already had experience and which was very attractive to the company, since it offered a number of advantages.

COFIDES has supported the internationalisation process of the company by granting several co-investment instruments using its own resources and the fund it manages for small and medium-sized companies: FONPYME. This last operation entails an expansion of the project in Colombia and it is the result of the need for financing its working capital needs in order to consolidate its presence in this country.

OPTICALIA buys, sells, commercialises and distributes optical items and sunglasses. Its business model is based on the association of professional opticians and selling exclusive brands. OPTICALIA offers its clients a great variety of products which complement its supply, and positions them in the sector by means of massive advertising campaigns of great fashion brands, thus distinguishing them from its competitors.

COFIDES is a combined private-public concern, which since 1988 has provided financial support to Spanish enterprises abroad. COFIDES manages the FIEX and FONPYME funds on behalf of the State Secretariat for Trade, within The Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. The stockholders include the Bank of Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), Santander Bank, Popular Bank, Sabadell Bank and CAF (Development Bank of Latin America).
