COFIDES will foster the international development of the engineering company SAMPOL in the area of the Caribbean. For this, a loan has been granted for an amount of 1.3 million euro attached to COFIDES’ own resources.

The goal of this funding is to consolidate SAMPOL’s international subsidiaries in Mexico, Panama and the Dominican Republic where the company enjoys a position through the counselling of major hotel companies and where they are developing a more thriving activity.

This is the second transaction for both companies, as COFIDES supported SAMPOL in 2013 for the construction, implementation and exploitation of a co-generation plant in Italy.

COFIDES’ chairman and CEO, Salvador Marín, highlighted “the quality and innovation of the Spanish companies, allowing them to be very competitive in foreign markets”. Also, he was satisfied for a new chance of accompanying a Spanish company “by contributing to consolidate their internationalisation and support the structural growth of the company, and therefore the consolidation of the mother company”.

On the other hand, SAMPOL’s CEO, Carmen Sampol share her satisfaction for the signing of the collaboration agreement easing the funding by COFIDES, a benchmark in supporting Spanish private investment projects abroad. “SAMPOL alone has managed the internationalisation since 1990 y and this support will allow to strengthen our subsidiaries in Latin America” – she asserted.

The company is present in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Panama and Cabo Verde and has more than 1,300 employees. Among other activities, they manage 57 airports in 7 countries, install and maintain railway systems, develop comprehensive hotel projects and provides data centres engineering, audit and consultancy services.

Founded in Mallorca in 1934, SAMPOL is a multinational group with Spanish capital focused on the implementation of energy projects, electromechanical installations, communication networks and control systems, as well as on the development, construction and exploitation of plants generating sustainable energy.

COFIDES is a combined private-public concern, which since 1988 has provided financial support to Spanish enterprises abroad. COFIDES manages the FIEX and FONPYME funds on behalf of the State Secretariat for Trade, within The Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. The stockholders include the Bank of Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), Santander Bank, Popular Bank, Sabadell Bank and CAF (Development Bank of Latin America).
