At Suma Capital we are very pleased to be able to share, through our ESG 2020 Report, the milestones we have reached and the future challenges we have set ourselves to continue promoting responsible impact investments, which are the driving force behind a necessary transformation of the economic model that must steer the recovery after the profound crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

It has been an intense collective effort that has allowed us to reinforce the commitments we have made from the outset to our investors and the community, focusing our investments both on sustainable infrastructure, based on the energy transition and the circular economy and on supporting the growth of small and medium-sized businesses as they move towards more sustainable management.

Other objectives achieved in 2020 include the revision of our Responsible Investment Policy and a more rigorous update to our governance under ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) criteria. It is also worth mentioning our dedicated training across the entire Suma Capital team to better integrate ESG risks into management and identify opportunities for value creation in our investments; the implementation of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) Guidelines; and quantifying our carbon footprint while participating in an ambitious effort to reduce and compensate for our carbon footprint.

Throughout 2020, we conducted external ESG Due Diligence on all our new investments, gaining portfolio companies’ commitment, and establishing a methodology for them to progress together with our team in all ESG areas on an ongoing basis.

We also participated in initiatives such as the Task Force on Climate-related Disclosures (TFCD) or the European Alliance for a Green Recovery, as we are convinced that the fight against climate change and the promotion of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the 2030 Agenda must be the fundamental pillars guiding progress in societies at a global level.

Thanks to our approach, at Suma Capital we have achieved recognition as leaders and pioneers in the field of responsible investment in Spain, repeatedly obtaining an A+ rating from the United Nations PRI, and twice receiving the Award for the Best ESG Initiative in Spain from the Association of Capital, Growth and Investment (ASCRI).

Yet none of this would have been possible without the joint efforts of our team, our investors and the companies in our investee portfolio. People and companies all aligned around the same values and objectives: “adding our commitment to build the future we believe in”.

At Suma Capital, we hope that this ESG 2020 Report will be of interest to you, and that it will allow you to learn more about the favourable impact of the projects and investments developed through our SC SCEEF and SC Growth funds, which will soon be complemented by a new investment vehicle, SC Climate Fund III, focused on the fight against climate change. Most importantly, we hope that this report will serve as a source of inspiration so that, as our motto states, we may keep on “growing together”.
